Alison Pebworth: Artist Talk + Training Session

Saturday, June 8, 1-3 PM

Artist Alison Pebworth will discuss her traveling exhibition and research project “Beautiful Possibility,” on view at LCCM June 7 through July 28.

Refreshments will be provided.

Beautiful Possibility takes the prototype of the 19th century American Traveling show as inspiration for engaging others about what it means to be American.

The exhibition includes ten painted banners, a large painted travel map that layers pre-European native territories and contemporary highways, and an interactive survey station. Pebworth “re-tells” American history in the hand-painted banners she exhibits by mixing eras, integrating obscure and popular figures and linking historic myths and contemporary culture.

Since 2010 Pebworth has toured with the show to over twenty five venues, living in a travel trailer for this solo journey, presenting her work, collecting surveys, and developing site specific projects that focused on hands-on interactions.

In conjunction with the Beautiful Possibility exhibition LCCM is helping to launch the next phase of the project: a data driven exhibition of charts and diagrams that reflect the interactive input of thousands. Volunteers are needed to input hand-written surveys collected over the past three-years into a program for statistical tabulations.

Volunteers will need to bring a laptop and set aside an hour for a short training and work session following the artist talk. Rewards of a limited edition tour catalog, patches and recognition on the Beautiful Possibility website will be offered for as little as ten survey entries (about an hour of your time). Easy, fun and illuminating!

Please contact LCCM directly if you are interested in participating.
