Salon @ LCCM – through 7.11

Sunday, July 11, 4 PM

In an effort to start an ongoing dialogue on issues in the arts, LCCM invites you to a salon conversation on Sunday, July 11th at 4:00 pm.  In the spirit of the artist salons of the last century, the hope is to gather artists in what is an inspiring location to enrich the experience of artmaking and support artistic endeavors.

The publication “Art Work: A National Conversation about Art, Labor, and Economics” will be our starting point for the conversation.  The publication poses the following questions:  “Why is visual art, which can be understood as a basic foundation for human communication, not funded as an integral part of our lives as Americans? Why don’t we think being an artist is a real job?”

Mina Cohen will be the facilitator for this first salon conversation.  She is a faculty member at College of the Redwoods teaching Art Appreciation and Art History.  She is a member of Partners Gallery in Fort Bragg.   If you plan to attend and would like to prepare by reading an issue of “Art Work” you can access the publication at
