Temporary: New Murals, Paintings & Diorama Sketches by Jason Godeke
May 3 – June 30, 2013

Godeke’s work is simultaneously playful and foreboding, reminiscent of the imaginative realm of childhood yet removed. Pauline Halper: Paper, Line, Scissors 4.5 – 5.31 2013

Opening Reception: Friday, April 5th, 5 – 9PM

Pauline Halper’s works start with color.  She paints shapes on paper and then draws on top of them.  Then she “re-draws” the shapes or images with scissors.  Feet, bones, heads, eyeballs and other body parts appear frequently in Halper’s work, but the cheeriness of her color choices and the whimsy of her line, almost cartoon-like, belie the gruesomeness of these images, pushing them toward abstraction.… Read More

The Forest of Baba Yaga’s Children 11.4 – 11.27 2011

Atticus and Willow O’Feral use many elements to create a single, self-contained world in The Forest of Baba Yaga’s Children, opening this Friday, November 4 at Lost Coast Culture Machine. The title refers to the wise and wrathful hag of Slavic folklore, and the imagined forest populated by her descendents.  This show features sculptures, drawings, plant installations and live music by Atticus O’Feral, with video and photography by Willow O’Feral and a guest installation by Jacob Hewko.  It is a forest inhabited by snails, children, human/animal amalgamates, eucalyptus and Manzanita trees, the rusted metal artifacts of a decaying industrial past, and a giant leafy sea dragon (Phycodurus eques, a relative of the seahorse).  The installation is built from oneiric dimensions, things pregnant with whimsicality and menace, fairy tales, ocean debris, and the shady goings-on of this northern California coast environment.… Read More
